Fainstain (2000), in ’New Directions in Planning Theory’ wherein he examined the three
models of planning theory i.e. the Communicative Model; the New Urbanism and the
Just City in terms of their efficacy and application in today’s context. The differences
among the various types reflect an enduring tension between a focus on the planning
process and on emphasis on desirable outcomes. On competitive comparison on merits,
author defends the continued use of the just city model and a modified form of the
political economy mode of analysis
